About
This site first started in 2005 over at Neal2028 primarily covering the Virginia Governor’s race. Now, not only do I talk about Virginia politics, I talk about U.S. politics quite a bit, country music, baseball, and what ever else pops in to my head.
Well, about me: I’m 18 years old and from Bristol, down in the southwest corner of Virginia (I consider myself a lifelong Virginian, even though I was born in Tennessee). I’m a member of the Bristol Virginia Democratic Committee, and I’m also an Officer of Elections. I’m currently attending college, with the intent to major in either Political Science or Psychology.
I do intend to seek elective office in the future. I believe that our nation’s most important issues right now are veterans’ services, universal health care, the minimum wage, and the elimination of poverty. I’m basically an old-fashioned progressive Democrat in the mold of Hubert Humphrey, John Kennedy, and the like.
If you wonder where I stand on something, ask me. I’ve got an opinion on everything, and I’ll certainly let you know where I stand.

Neal,
I was born and raised in southwest Virginia — Galax to Roanoke to Flatridge. I came across your web site doing research for my next book, part of which focuses on the New River. My father was an attorney in Independence, VA. He worked with Congressman Bill Wampler, father of Senator William C. Wampler, to protect the New River from the dams the Blue Ridge Power Company wanted to build along the river in order to “flush out” the polluted Kanawha River.
The river was saved; the south fork was inducted into the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in 1976; and the entire New River became an American Heritage River in July of 1998.
If you or someone you know has history with or a personal story about the battle over the New River, please contact me.
I appreciate your time and best regards,
David Harrington Campbell.
